About Nayeli Špela: In my profession and passion, I work as psychologist and psychotherapist, founder of Moave - psychology in movement NGO. My background in movement comes from growing up being a semi professional handball player for many, many years. This sport tough me about momentum, ability to fall without fear, trust my instincts, trust my body intelligence to adapt, observe the space and have a felt sense perception of it, being fast, but alert etc. etc. After starting dancing contact improvisation I realised, it is all there in the body and so for me felt like arriving home. All this informations came together. For me contact improvisation is about principles that need to be embodied, to be danced and they can only be embodied if they are felt and experienced, rather than understood. I have deep respect for this practice since in my perception it is a teacher of life. Thanks to many, many knowledgeable people I have met in the jams, festivals and workshops, their wisdom and body intelligence have touched me and reshaped me into a more aware, soft and humble human being. I look forward to meeting you in this workshop and learning from you!
Movement was fascinating for me since I can remember myself. Besides following the rhythm of music, as a child, I was trying to imitate dangerous stunts from movies, dreaming of becoming a stuntman. Later I practiced Kung Fu but stopped because it felt too violent for me. In my early youth I was called to a more fluid and inward-oriented practice. I practiced Tai ChiI for many years and even today, in my dancing, I am using movement and breathing principles I have learned back then. In 2015 I discovered Contact Improvisation, which has been my main movement and dance practice. I instantly fell in love with it, and the more I danced, the more interested I became. Being a computer engineer and a musician at that time made me both curious about its technical, biomechanical aspects but also about the compositional and poetical tensions that it was pointing to. I delved deeper and deeper into researching, refining and understanding its principles and its initial artistic ideas. Beside Bucharest weekly classes for 7 years now I attended workshops and festivals with teachers that gave me great insights and inspiration. All this involvement led me towards teaching. At the moment I enjoy searching for ways to assist people in their process of understanding CI principles, and feel excited to bring my findings to the more experienced dancers. I am genuinely interested in every dance I have, setting my mind to function both as a scientist’s mind - being curious, never reaching a final conclusion, always trying to keep the experience alive - as well as having the joy and exuberance of a child. I see every CI dance as an opportunity of sharing experience and communication between dancers.
I am a Gestalt counselor trained at the Miriam Polster Institute in Florence and an integrated approach music therapist graduated from the Tuscan Center of Music Therapy. In the social and educational sphere I collaborate with school institutions and mental health centers in prevention and rehabilitation projects with specific Music Therapy resources. As part of the relationship of help, I work with groups of adults through the tools of Counseling, using a Gestalt approach and artistic mediation. I lead groups on the use of voice and song as a vehicle for transforming human potential, an integration path between Gestalt techniques, artistic mediation counseling, vocal music therapy and free singing. In the artistic and personal well-being field I work as a multi-instrumentalist in concert activities called sound rituals / world-music, a path that sees the realization of meditative concerts through evocative sounds from different countries of the world, combined with the ritualistic dimension of the human being that offers the listener the opportunity to create internal landscapes useful for inner growth and the development of his potential. I am an educational teacher at the biennial music therapy course in Florence. Trainer and populariser in the pedagogical and social field with teachers, helpers and parents.
