SOMATICA DELLA CONTACT IMPROVISATION – Michele Marchesani

The term “somatic” comes from the Greek word “soma,” which means “body,” and somatic practices focus on perceiving and understanding bodily intelligence. Instead of emphasizing only physical movement, these practices invite people to develop a deep awareness of the sensations, images, and thoughts that arise during the exploration of the body and movement.

There is a tendency to bring other somatic practices into dance (Somatics into Contact) rather than investigating its intrinsic somatic aspect. Although such practices can enhance the quality of dance, exploring the “Somatics in Contact” should not translate into the direct adoption of any of these practices within CI, since the latter is already, in itself, a somatic practice.

The somatic aspects of CI should be examined from within the practice itself, using its own perspective, vision, and language. The founders of this discipline intentionally did not set its boundaries, leaving the practice free to express and evolve, encouraging a continuous spirit of research. A research that, through the process of improvisation, manifests itself in the dance itself. Dancing “is researching.”

CONTACT SILENCE

CONTACT SILENCE retreats is a social promotion project of LIBERA MENTE APS association

We firmly believe that contact improvisation holds great potential on a social and communicative level and carries within it an unequivocal educational message. In addition to being the vanguard of the natural and authentic movement, it teaches respect for one’s body and the other, nourishing the fundamental need of the human being to physical contact, gives joy and well-being to those who practice it, reconnects man to his creativity and the primordial dimension of the game.
